Abstract 3′-Deoxykanamycin has been totally synthesized from 6-O-(2-O-benzyl-3-deoxy-3-ethoxycarbonylamino-4,6-O-isopropylidene-α-d-glucopyranosyl)-N,N′-diethoxycarbonyl-2-deoxystreptamiine and 6-azido-2,4-di-O-benzyl-3,6-dideoxy-α-dribo–hexopyranosyl chloride. It has been found that the 3′-deoxykanamycin has strong antibacterial activity not only against common bacteria but also against kanamycin-resistant bacteria.
