The complete electron spectra of atomic lead excited with monochromatised synchrotron radiation in the 37 to 105 eV photon range have been investigated. Electron lines arise from photoionisation in the 6p, 6s and 5d shells as well as from the Auger decay of the 5d holes. The presence of satellite lines and the complex structure of the 5d photoelectron multiplet exhibit the strong influence of electron correlations and the spin-orbit interaction. The 5d multiplet structure is explained qualitatively by multi-configuration Dirac-Fock calculations. Relative subshell photoionisation cross sections are presented.
