Day 5 blastocysts were transferred into four recipient sows (20–25 blastocysts per recipient) to evaluate full-term developmental competence.
Supplementation with 2.5 mM theophylline significantly increased male pronuclear formation relative to controls, whereas 1 µM adenosine significantly reduced the number of penetrating spermatozoa.
Supplementing PGM containing theophylline and adenosine with 0.2 µM cysteine significantly increased development to the blastocyst stage without altering monospermy or pronuclear formation rates.
Embryo transfer of Day 5 blastocysts resulted in confirmed pregnancies across all four recipient sows (4/4), delivering a total of 21 live piglets at full term.
