The various factors that may affect the loss in mechanical properties encountered in a1uminum magnesium-silicon alloys, when some natural ageing is allowed to take place between solution treatment and artificial ageing, were studied in several common aluminum-magnesium silicide alloys. The composition and the solution-treatment temperature were found to be the two main factors affecting the phenomenon observed. Evidence obtained shows that the results may be explained on the basis of the number and size of G. P. zones formed.
