None of these have proved to be highly sensitive and, at the same time, specific for rheumatoid arthritis. This is not surprising since the very factors tested are generally nonspecific macroglobulins. In addition, until its cause and pathogenesis are known, rheumatoid arthritis cannot be defined precisely.The use of latex fixation tests in other medical problems has received little attention.
