Modern CAD tools offer accurate 3D visualization and total data integrity. Assisting the plant engineer during the development of a conceptual plant layout offers the possibility of generating and comparing alternative layout concepts. The use of standards to estimate the total space for equipment and the use of standard constraints for a placement algorithm, which accelerates this time intensive planning process, are presented.
