SYNOPSIS Examination of types has shown the existence of much synonymy, which is here newly established as a preliminary step towards the preparation of a catalogue of Australian Tachinidae. Eighteen names of the genus‐group and 32 specific names are newly placed in synonymy and 34 new combinations are established. Seven lecto‐types are designated.
