Policy review reveals fragmented waste systems and inconsistent circular economy adoption in municipal sectors, highlighting the need for structured public-private partnerships.
Zambia faces increasing difficulties in managing municipal solid waste (MSW) due to rapid urbanisation, weak policy enforcement, underfunding, and fragmented waste management systems. This paper combines recent research to explore how circular economy (CE) principles intersect with sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices in Zambia. Although local government authorities (LGAs) are becoming more aware of CE concepts, policy implementation remains inconsistent, and waste segregation at source is still limited. The study also indicates that while the private sector has made some progress in developing green supply chains, broader sectoral integration remains lacking. The paper advocates for revised policies, stronger public-private partnerships, and greater support for the informal sector to build a resilient, circular waste economy in Zambia.
