Experimental study demonstrates enhanced optical conductivity and reduced band gaps in PMMA-PEG-SiC-MnO2 hybrid films, indicating potential for advanced optoelectronics.
This study investigates the fabrication of thermoplastic nanocomposites films to apply in many optoelectronics and photonics fields. Films of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) doped with SiC–MnO 2 nanoparticles were prepared using the casting method. The structural, morphological, optical and dielectric features of thermoplastic films were examined. The optical features results indicated the absorbance was enhanced of 91% at a wavelength of λ = 360 nm. The optical band gap was decreased from 3.49 eV to 2.8 eV. Furthermore, the optical conductivity was improved of 73% at λ = 320 nm with increasing nanoparticle content up to 0.9 wt%, this behavior is suitable for optoelectronic applications. Regarding the dielectric properties, the dielectric features were enhanced with increasing nanoparticle content up to 0.9 wt%. Finally, the obtained results showed the PMMA–PEG/SiC–MnO 2 films are promising thermoplastic nanocomposites to apply in various optoelectronics and photonics devices.
