Endurance training for 14 weeks induced physiological cardiac hypertrophy and significantly increased the expressions of miR-1 and miR-133 by greater than 2.1-fold in the left ventricle of rats.
Why the study?
Recent studies showed miR-1 and miR-133 are key regulators of cardiac hypertrophy, but their response and transcriptional network during endurance training required evaluation.
Does endurance training alter the expression of miR-1, miR-133, and their transcriptional network in the hearts of healthy male Wistar rats?
Does endurance training alter the expression of miR-1, miR-133, and their transcriptional network in the hearts of healthy male Wistar rats?
Endurance training induces physiological cardiac hypertrophy in rats, which is associated with the upregulation of miR-1, miR-133, and their target genes (Srf, Hdac4, Hand2).
Hypothesis-generating in rats; leaves open whether miR-1/miR-133 upregulation translates to human exercise responses.
OBJECTIVE: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a key role in the development of the heart. Recent studies have shown that miR- 1 and miR-133 are key regulators of cardiac hypertrophy. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effect of an endurance training (ET) program on the expressions of these miRNAs and their transcriptional network. MATERIALS AND METHODS: ) gene expressions by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Finally, the collected data were evaluated by the independent t test to determine differences between the groups. RESULTS: did not significantly change. CONCLUSION: The expressions of miR-1 and miR-133 and their target genes appeared to be involved in physiological hypertrophy induced by ET in these rats.

Fathi et al. (2020) studied Physiological cardiac hypertrophy (n=14). Endurance training vs. Control (no training) was evaluated on miR-1 expression (2.1-fold increase, p=0.001). Endurance training for 14 weeks induced physiological cardiac hypertrophy and significantly increased the expressions of miR-1 and miR-133 by greater than 2.1-fold in the left ventricle of rats.
