Experiments with laying hens receiving a continuous light period of 8 hours plus a 2-hour light period at different intervals after the end of the 8-hour light period showed that egg production was highest when the light regime was 8L:10D:2L:4D. Egg production under this light regime was statistically not significantly higher than egg production under 14L:10D. No effect of these light regimes was noted on egg shell breaking strength when comparisons were made on the basis of similar egg production.
