Controlled laboratory experiment reveals dynamic cuticular hydrocarbon shifts in desiccation-stressed fruit flies, highlighting physiological adaptations to water loss.
This dataset contains 25 cuticular hydrocarbon (CHC) peaks of male Drosophila melanogaster adults characterised using GC-MS. We used a single population collected from the Western Himalayas (Rohru: 31°N, 77.7°E, 2592 m above sea level, India). The flies were exposed to six desiccation durations (2h, 4h, 6h, 8h and 10 h), with 0 h serving as the experimental control. Each treatment was supported by ten replicates (N = 60 samples total).Pentadecane (ISTD) was used as an internal standard for CHC peak normalisation.
