Sera from 202 Rio Grande turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo intermedia) live-trapped over a 3- year period (1963-65) on the Welder Wildlife Refuge in South Texas were subjected to serologic screen- ing for the presence of specific antibodies. Few or no serologic reactors were detected against eastern viral encephalitis, western viral encephalitis, California viral encephalitis, Venezuelan viral encephalitis, encephalomyocarditis, mycoplasmosis, and salmonellosis. The most significant serologic finding was the presence of antibodies to Newcastle disease, St. Louis viral encephalitis, ornithosis, and vesicular stoma- titis. The interpretation of these serologic results and the significance of these infections in wild tur- keys are discussed.
