The uptake kinetics of dissolved inorganic phosphate (31P1) by lake water microorganisms and a green alga (Selenastrum capricornutum) were determined as a function of uptake rates of radiophosphate (32P1) at added 31P1 levels ⩾ 0. The data did not follow a simple Michaelis‐Menten equation.
