When applying circular current limiters to restrict overcurrent in grid-forming doubly fed induction generators (GFM-DFIGs), the complicated control characteristics present challenges for transient stability analysis. This article develops a transient model for GFM-DFIG equipped with circular current limiter and investigates the impact of virtual impedance parameters on transient performance. Theoretical analysis and experimental validation indicate that smaller virtual impedance can enhance the fault ride-through capability of current-limited GFM-DFIG, and virtual resistance has a more significant detrimental impact compared to virtual inductance.
