A cyclic voltammetric study of copper metal in 1 mole kg − 1 LiOHsolution at 25 δ , 125 δ , 200 δ , and 250 δ C is described. The results are consistent with the formation of both soluble ( CuO 2 2 − ) and insoluble ( Cu 2 O and CuO ) products at the metal surface. The formation and reduction of Cu(III) was found to occur near oxygen evolution at 25δC but not at the higher temperatures due to a sharp reduction in the oxygen evolution overpotential with temperature.
