The new ferrocene derivative 1,1‘-diisocyanoferrocene was prepared in 50% isolated yield from the reaction of 1,1‘-diisocyanatoferrocene with formic acid followed by thermal decarboxylation and reaction with POCl 3 /NH( i -Pr) 2 . An improved synthesis route to ferrocenylamine involves lithiation of ferrocene with t -BuLi followed by reaction with α-azidostyrene and subsequent acidification.
