A model is presented which describes the temperature variation of the frequency distribution of the tunnelling frequency of a hindered triangular rotor. The model takes account of the transitions of that rotor from its ground to its first excited torsional oscillator state. Numerical results are given for a methyl group with a hindering barrier od 5.3 kJ mole -1 . This corresponds very closely to the experimental situation described in the previous paper for gamma -irradiated methyl malonic acid.
