Spectra of Lambda hypernuclei are studied within a relativistic meson field theory. Experimental data on the single-particle spectra of Lambda hypernuclei are well reproduced. However, it is shown that the coupling constants cannot be fixed unambiguously from the single-particle spectra. This is in disagreement with previous statements found in the literature. Multi-strange nuclei exhibit a strange, neutral surface and a strongly enhanced interaction radius and could be produced and observed in the secondary non-charge-changing reactions of high-energy heavy ions.
