The variations of modulus and damping in copper were measured in the kHz range during electron irradiation at temperatures between 9 and 160 K. The results are compared with both Granato—Lücke and Simpson—Sosin models for dislocation damping. The results are in good agreement with the Grenato—Lücke theory at low strain amplitude. A ‘peak’ in the damping as a function of irradiation time appears at higher strain amplitude and the defect dragging mechanism proposed by Simpson and Sosin can explain this observation.
