This article discusses the effect of the herbicide 2, 4‐D compound on water quality and evaluates conventional water treatment methods in the removal of these compounds. It was found that the water treatments of chemical coagulation and oxidation by chlorine and potassium permanganate failed to remove 2, 4‐D derivatives. Oxidation with potassium permanganate, however, effectively removed 2, 4‐DCP, as did activated carbon treatment and strongly basic anion‐exchange resins.
