Patient activated antitachycardia pacing therapy using the Medtronic AT500 pacemaker was effective in controlling atrial tachycardia when the standard algorithm was overridden.

Does patient-activated antitachycardia pacing using a dual-chamber pacemaker improve arrhythmia control in a patient with refractory atrial tachycardia?
Patient-activated antitachycardia pacing can be an effective strategy for arrhythmia control in patients with refractory atrial tachycardia when standard algorithms fail.
Patient-activated antitachycardia pacing may aid refractory atrial tachycardia control; single-case observation leaves open need for prospective validation.
A 28-year-old female with corrected anomalous pulmonary venous drainage presented with multiple atrial arrhythmias many years later. Ablation techniques eliminated most of the arrhythmias except atrial tachycardia with 1:1 AV conduction. A dual-chamber pacemaker with antiatrial tachycardia features was implanted and was shown to be effective in arrhythmia control when the standard algorithm was overridden by an external patient activation device.

Weber et al. (2006) conducted a case report in Atrial tachycardia with 1:1 AV conduction (n=1). Patient activated antitachycardia pacing therapy using the Medtronic AT500 pacemaker vs. Standard algorithm was evaluated on Arrhythmia control. Patient activated antitachycardia pacing therapy using the Medtronic AT500 pacemaker was effective in controlling atrial tachycardia when the standard algorithm was overridden.
