The electron-phonon interaction in polyacetylene is studied by means of a simple model that can be solved to a high degree of accuracy. Some one-electron properties, such as the density of states, are calculated. The unusual features induced by the one-dimensionality of the system are discussed, as are its implications for the striking transport features of the polymer.
