The threshold field of the Freedericksz transition in planar oriented SC monocrystals possessing positive dielectric anisotropy is calculated for two boundary conditions. It is shown that the threshold field is relatively low when a discontinuous transition is taken into consideration. The effective elastic constant is determined from the experimental data.
