Chemotherapy and radiotherapy resulted in the patient being alive without recurrence of the extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma at 4 months of follow-up.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report describes a rare instance of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma in the lower leg of an 11-year-old boy, successfully treated with limb-sparing chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Short-term success with limb-sparing chemo-radiotherapy in pediatric extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma; hypothesis-generating and requires validation in larger series with longer follow-up.
A case of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma of the lower leg in a male aged 11 years was reported. Histologically, the neoplasm was composed of small, round to oval cells with scant cytoplasm that were arranged in sheets with multiple areas of hemorrhage and necrosis. The cytoplasm contained glycogen granules and reticulin was encircling group of cells. Clinically and radiologically the tumor appears to be of soft tissue origin. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy was performed. This patient is alive without recurrence of the tumor at the time of writing.
