A new apparatus has been constructed to study the fatigue of fibres subject to cyclic bending, and to investigate the effect of the surrounding environment on fatigue life. It uses a technique of rotation over a wire which involves tension-compression of fibres which are rotated while bent through an angle near to 90 degrees . The apparatus has ten stations and hence many tests can be made in order to make accurate determinations of the median life.
