A metalπ*(carbene) charge-transfer emission was observed for the first time in solution at room temperature for the title compound. This novel hexanuclear platinum macrocycle is formed by self-assembly of six dicarbeneplatinum(II) moieties and six cyanide ligands. The Pt centers occupy six corners of a cube, and the cyanide ligands constitute the edges (depicted schematically on the right; circles=[Pt(C10H21N4)], rectangles=CN)
