Purpose of Review To review polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) in adolescents, including the history of the condition, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management. Recent Findings Formerly known as PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), the recent nomenclature change to PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) shifts the focus from a sole ovarian cause and acknowledges the interplay of complex metabolic factors that drive the condition. Summary PMOS is a multifaceted medical condition that affects up to 20% of reproductive age women and is often diagnosed in adolescence. This article will provide a multifaceted review of PMOS, including the pathophysiology, diagnosis and criteria utilized in adolescence, current management, along with promising new therapies.
