Archival review reveals promotional media collections in the Greek National Tourism Organisation repository, indicating novel research pathways for Mediterranean tourism history.
The digital historical repository of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (Ελληνικός Οργανισμός Τουρισμού, EOT), made freely available online by the organisation itself, gathers the promotional output of one of the oldest national tourism bodies in the Mediterranean. Founded in 1929 and re-established in 1950, EOT has spent close to a century constructing and circulating an image of Greece for foreign and domestic audiences. The repository organises this output into six categories: posters, printed matter, advertising campaigns, logos, distinctions, and video. Unlike the manuscript collections more familiar to tourism historians, it is a curated body of material that was always intended for public consumption, and its value lies precisely there. This note describes the repository, situates it within EOT’s institutional history, and indicates the lines of enquiry it can support, while noting its limits and the complementary collections that researchers should consult alongside it.
