Ecological survey reveals family-specific habitat variations across fifty-eight butterfly species, highlighting the impact of landscape modification on local insect biodiversity.
Abstract:Present study carried out to assess baseline status of butterflies in and around of Hingna Tehsil, Maharashtrafrom March 2023 to February 2024. This study will help to assess whether modifying natural habitats forinfrastuructal and industrialization has an impact on the diversity and distribution of butterflies.During this research, we examined the seasonal diversity patterns with reference to diverse habitat viz opengrassland, man-made waterbodies, ornamental garden, medicinal plantation. It carried outsampling of butterflies“Pollard Method”. Total of 58 species of butterflies were recorded belonging to 38genera and 5 families. TheNymphalidae family was dominant and consisting 22 species i.e 13 species of subdominant Lycaenidae and13species of Pieridae, 06 species of Papilionidae and 04 species of Hesperiidae. The community structure wasanalysed using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H′), Species Richness and Pielou’s evenness (J′).
