Flow Aligned Viscosities of Cyanobiphenyls

The flow aligned viscosities of a series of 4-n-alkyl- and 4-n-alkoxy-4′-cyanobiphenyl liquid crystals have been measured over a range of temperatures. Mixtures of these cyanobiphenyls, some also including a 4-n-alkyl-4″-cyano-p-terphenylh, have been measured and design rules formulated for producing low viscosity mixtures for use in display devices.
