Results are presented of ESR experiments and optical measurements on F‐centers in additively colored SrF2 crystals. The hyperfine interactions between the unpaired electron and the surrounding nuclei are discussed and compared with the results obtained for F‐centers in CaF2 and BaF2. Combined results of ESR experiments, optical measurements, and bleaching experiments indicate that the absorption band at 4490 Å arises from an electron trapped in an F− vacancy. It appears that there is no correlation between the absorption bands at 4490 and 6350 Å.
