Raman and Brillouin scattering is used for the study of the phase transitions in improper ferroelectrics and ferroelastics GMO and TMO and in ferroelectric TSCC. Light scattering data obtained in rare earth molybdates with I2-cell evidence a broad central mode, highly temperature dependent. Analyzing the low-frequency Raman spectra in TSCC, except a well-defined underdamped soft mode, we found hard modes with anomalous intensity behaviour.
