Volume magnetostriction measurements are reported on enhanced paramagnetic and weakly ferromagnetic Ni 3 Al and Ni-Pt alloys. The experimental data are analysed in the band model of magnetism. As a result of this analysis values for the ratio of the effective (I) and bare (I b ) interactions between the itinerant electrons are obtained. For Ni 3 Al I/I b =0.5; for Ni-Pt I/I b =0.85.
