Thermal expansion measurements on enhanced paramagnetic and weakly ferromagnetic Ni3Al and Ni—Pt alloys were performed with a three-terminal capacitance method in the temperature interval 4.2 to 12 K. The ferromagnetic alloys contract with increasing temperatures due to a large magnetic contribution to the thermal expansion. The thermal expansion of the paramagnetic alloys increases at approaching the critical concentration. The electron contribution to the thermal expansion has a peaked behaviour around the critical concentration for ferromagnetism.
