Reports acoustic-resonance measurements of the component s 11 of the elastic compliance in SrTiO 3 near its 105K phase transition. The observed critical singularity is stronger than that suggested by earlier measurements using pulse-echo techniques, and stronger than that predicted by the theory of ideal crystal critical behaviour. These results are indicative of a dynamic defect-controlled central-peak phenomenon.
