The properties of 111In-labeled transferrin, 111In EDTA, and 111In DTPA were studied in 37 patients undergoing cerebrospinal fluid scanning. The scan distribution of 111In transferrin (500 μCi) and 131I-labeled RISA (200 μCi) was identical in 6 patients receiving simultaneous injections of the radiopharmaceuticals. Indium-111 EDTA and DTPA also showed a scan distribution similar to RISA. Both the transferrin and chelate compounds of 111In were satisfactory for cerebrospinal fluid studies. The count rate was highest with 111In transferrin due to rapid absorption of 111In DTPA and 111In EDTA and excretion in the urine. A comparison of useful photons per rad at 24 hours postinjection showed 111In superior to 131I, 99mTc, 169Yb, and 203Pb.
