Experimental study demonstrates wideband performance and reduced height in a folded magnetoelectric dipole antenna, indicating enhanced compact integration for mobile communications.
In this letter, a wideband, compact magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna with a low profile is proposed. By folding the radiating arms, the overall height of the magnetoelectric dipole antenna is significantly reduced. Additionally, the Unequal-Arms dipole technique is introduced to widen the bandwidth by adding more resonant points. A novel mixed Γ-type feeding structure, which is embedded in the PCB by metal to promote impedance matching and assembly, improve the stability of the structure and reduce the production cost. By properly design, the folded structure can achieve both low profile and good impedance matching. Finally, an antenna prototype was designed, fabricated, and measured, with the simulated and measured results agreeing well with each other. The proposed antenna achieves a reduced profile of 0.057λ (λ corresponds to a frequency of 1.7GHz), a 45% bandwidth within the range of 1.7GHz to 2.7GHz (S11<-10dB), a stable radiation pattern with a gain exceeding 7.3 dBi, and a half-power beamwidth greater than 82.7° in the working band.
