Step-growth polymerization continues to receive intense academic and industrial attention for the preparation of polymeric materials used in many applications. In this method the reaction between monomers and the growing polymer chain end group may releases a small molecule such as water, alcohol, and etc. A number of polymers obtained in step-growth polymerization reactions can be accounted to so-called functionally terminated thermoplastics, which combine toughness of thermoplastics and resistance of thermosets. This review deals with recent progress in studies of some of condensation synthetic thermoplastic polymers from macro to nanostructures and discusses their physicochemical characteristics, structure-property relationships, applications, and limitations.
