The rate constants of the Diels-Alder reaction of trans,trans-1,4-diphenylbuta-1,3-diene (1) with thiofluorenone (2) in benzene, 1,4-dioxane, acetonitrile, trichloromethane and 1,2-dichloroethane in the temperature range of 293–313 K were determined. The enthalpies and entropies of activation of the 1 + 2 reaction in these solvents were calculated. Hydrostatic pressure effect on the rate constant of the 1 + 2 reaction in toluene was studied, and the activation volume was calculated. The reaction volume was determined using the kinetic method. The reactivity of dienophiles with C=S, C=C and N=N bonds in the Diels-Alder reaction with trans,trans-1,4-diphenylbuta-1,3-diene was compared. The factor determining the reactivity of these dienophiles was determined.
