Key result
Triple valve replacement in 20 patients resulted in an in-hospital mortality of 15% and a 1-year survival rate of 80%.
Why the study?
Surgical treatment of combined aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve disease remains challenging due to high morbidity and mortality, necessitating evaluation of early outcomes after triple valve replacement.
Observational (n=20)
No
Triple valve replacement remains a high-risk procedure with a 15% in-hospital mortality, but achieves an acceptable 80% 1-year survival rate with modern perioperative management.
TVR carries substantial early risk in this small series; leaves open optimal patient selection and valve strategies for larger prospective studies.
Introduction: The surgical treatment of aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve diseases together remains a challenge as it is associated with a significantly high morbidity and mortality. The well-known risk factors, such as increased age, need for reoperation, and concomitant procedures, influence the outcomes of this complex and time-consuming surgery. Methods: To evaluate the early outcomes of patients who had undergone triple valve replacement (TVR) at our institute from January 2015 to June 2023. Results: A total of twenty patients were included in this study. In 18/20 (90%) patient’s bioprosthetic valve was used in the tricuspid position, whereas in all patients, mechanical prosthesis was used for the aortic and mitral positions. In-hospital mortality was 15% while the 1-year survival rate was 80%. A total of 5/20 (25%) patients required rehospitalization due to cardiac causes during the 1 st year after surgery, and prosthetic valve thrombosis was seen in 3/20 (15%) patients, all of which were treated medically. Conclusion: TVR is a challenging procedure, but advances in myocardial protection techniques, surgical techniques, and perioperative management have led to decrease in morbidity and mortality.

Shah et al. (2025) conducted an observational in Aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve diseases (n=20). Triple valve replacement was evaluated on In-hospital mortality. Triple valve replacement in 20 patients resulted in an in-hospital mortality of 15% and a 1-year survival rate of 80%.
