The impact of early relapses diminished after 10 years post-onset to a 10% hazard increase (95% CI, 4%–16%) for EDSS 6 and 2% (95% CI, -2%–7%) for SPMS.
Relapses occurring after secondary progressive onset had no measurable impact on time from SPMS to EDSS 6, and relapses past 5 years showed no significant effect in patients aged 35 or older at onset.
