A new method is described to hydrogenate polymeric unsaturation. The hydrogenation of polybutadiene, polyisoprene and polystyrene is effected with coordination catalysts derived from alkyl or aryl lithiums and transition metal salts of 2‐ethylhexanoic acid. The catalyst activity is discussed as a function of lithium‐transition metal ratio, catalyst concentration, temperature, and hydrogen pressure.
