A number of novel triad diesterdiisocyanates with a core of either a (substituted) hydroquinonedibenzoate or diphenyl terephthalate are described. Due to their higher aspect ratio (length of mesogenic core) with regard to diad esterdiisocyanates, thermotropic diurethanes and hard segment type poly(urethane)s are obtained and characterized with regard to their phase behaviour. The influence of the structure of the diisocyanate as well as that of the diol is discussed.
