The domino effect: The combination of two multiple bond-forming transformations; a consecutive Wolff rearrangement/acylketene-trapping cross metathesis reaction and a domino Michael–aldol reaction, in a one-pot operation, provides a straightforward access to terpene-like tricyclo[7.2.1.01,6]dodecane compounds (see scheme). A prolonged domino reaction leads to terpene-like bicyclo[5.4.0]undecane compounds.
