The effect of the oxygen-hydrogen flow ratio and total gas flow on the emissive response of sulfur containing compounds is examined with the Melpar flame photometric detector (FPD) in the sulfur mode of operation. The effect of the oxidation state of the sulfur atom on the emissive response is also studied. The flame photometric responses are normalized by comparison to those obtained with a Dohrmann microcoulometric sulfur detector (MCD).
