Pregnant Wistar rats were administered 50,000 IU of vitamin A palmitate orally on each of the 7th, 8th, and 9th days of gestation. Fluorescence microscopy of serial sections of 10th‐, 11th‐, and 12th day embryos revealed a fading, bright green color indicative of vitamin A. The fluorescence was located in the decidua capsularis, decidua basilaris, Reichert's membrane, parietal yolk‐sac epithelium, giant cells, and uterine musculature but not in the visceral yolk‐sac epithelium or embryo. The thyroid, adrenal, and kidney of experimental pregnant females showed an increase of vitamin A fluorescence.
