A new investigation of the absorption spectrum of Cs vapor in the - region has resulted in revisions and extension of the early work of Beutler and Guggenbeimer In particular, a prominent series has been observed Transitions are listed in ( ) notation; assignments are based on a new analysis of terms from the Cs TI spectrum. A comparison between the Rb I and Cs I spectra is made, and two types of two-electron excitation in inner-shell absorption spectra are distinguished. Many features of the Cs I spectrum exhibit very large autnionixation widths.
