The natural flow of heat from a thermal region is a first indication of the amount of steam that might be continually drawn from bores to generate electric power. Methods are described for assessing the natural heat flow by such agencies as steaming ground, geysers, springs, fumaroles, and the underground seepage of hot water to nearby streams or lakes.
