As electromagnetic energy passes through a planar array of linear dipoles, it undergoes a phase shift which is a function of the operating frequency and the array parameters. This property has been used to design and construct a lightweight zoned microwave lens antenna which has possible spacecraft applications. A description of the lens antenna, its principle of operation, and measured data are presented in this paper. Good agreement between the measured results and the predicted performance has been obtained.
